Carlos Prieto Cabrera

Film editor

Born in Barcelona, raised in Gijón and with a strong bond with the island of La Palma, where I spent my childhood, I have a degree as a film editor at the School of Cinematography and Visual Arts of the University of León. I began my professional career collaborating with the artistic collective Piensan las Manos. In 2005 I moved to Barcelona where I started working as an editor in several documentaries for the TVE (national broadcaster) documentary slot “Documentos TV”.

I continued my career as a freelance, always closely linked to the world of non-fiction, editing documentary films such as Bicycle, Spoon, Apple (Goya award for Best Documentary – Forqué  award for Best Documentary – Best Editing Award at the Ceará Film Festival in Brazil), The Kingdom of Mister Edhi (Silver Fipa 2012 – Télérama Award 2012), Serrat y Sabina, Two for the Road (Special Selection at San Sebastian Film Festival – Official Selection FIGC), Petitet (Audience Award DocsBarcelona Festival and Gaudí Award for Best Documentary), Out of Darkness (Best Editing Award at FICG tv) and Balandrau (opening film DocsBarcelona Festival), among many others.

In the fiction world I have edited feature films such as La Mort de Guillem (Gaudí Award for Best TV Film) and 13 Dies d’Octubre (Gaudí Award for Best TV Film) or the experimental series Kimeres, in which 6 fictional stories are constructed exclusively through archival footage. I have also been nominated for the Feroz Awards for the trailer of 10.000 KM and won a Proyecta Award for Best Trailer for Les Amigues de l’Àgata.

I am a founding member of AMMAC, the association of Catalan editors.
